Kids Avenue Curriculum

Infant/Toddler Curriculum:

We now know that the first years of life are more critical to a child’s development than we had ever imagined. During this time children are discovering who they are, how others respond to them, how to relate to others, and what it means to express their feelings. Their brains are being wired into patterns for development. At Kids Avenue we believe and follow “The Creative Curriculum” based theories.

• Our program is based on accepted theories of child development.
• Our program is individualized to meet the needs of most children.
• Each family’s culture is respected.
• The physical environment is safe, healthy, and contains a variety of toys and materials that are stimulating and familiar.
• Children select activities and materials that interest them, and they learn by being actively involved.
• Teachers show respect for children and interact wtih them in caring ways.
• Staff have specialized training in child development and appropriate programmig.

Preschool Curriculum:

The preschool years are a very important time in the life of a young child. During this time they begin to trust others outside of their family. They gain independence and self-control, and learn to take initiative and assert themselves in socially acceptable ways. They are very observant of the world around them. Preschoolers use thousands of words to communicate. Child development is divided into four areas – social/emotional, physical, cognitive, and language.  In our preschool rooms we follow the ideas of The Creative Curriculum. Our teachers also integrate many of their own creative ideas to make the classroom a great learning experience.

Social/Emotional Development:

• Achieving a sense of self
• Taking responsibility for self and others
• Behaving in a prosocial way

Physical Development:

• Achieving gross motor control
• Achieving fine motor control

Cognitive Development:

• Learning and problem solving
• Thinking logically
• Representing and thinking symbolically

Language Development:

• Listening and speaking
• Reading and writing
